For more than 10 years Adam Fletcher has been working with K-12 schools, youth-serving nonprofits, government agencies and other organizations to promote positive youth development, meaningful student involvement, and re-envisioning the roles of young people throughout society. This is a summary of some of the projects he's been involved with.

Action Projects


Students as Education Policy Advocates

The National PTA wanted to move students from being the passive recipients of school decision-makers to active partners. Contracting with Fletcher to design and pilot the program, it will be used with community-based partners nationally.

FireStarter Youth Empowerment

The town of Caroline, Alberta sits on the edge of the Canadian Rockies and is surrounded by ancient muskeg, coniferous forests and fields of wheat, canola and more. The Village of Caroline contracted with Adam to design and facilitate a youth empowerment curriculum, which has grown to become FireStarter. More than 200 youth in the local area participated. HumanLinks Student Voice

Fletcher spent four years helping the HumanLinks Foundation develop it's student voice initiative. Developing the SoundOut website as part of the project, Adam also wrote several publications, including the Meaningful Student Involvement Guide to Students as Partners in School Change and the SoundOut Student Voice Curriculum. Youth on Board

Fletcher has provided consultation and writing services to support Youth On Board's ongoing operations in schools and community organizations.

Student Equity Teams

Seattle Public Schools Office of Race and Equity contracted with Fletcher to create, develop, and support Student Equity Teams focused on meaningful student involvement and race relations in 10 high schools across the city.

Supportive Learning Environments

Fletcher provided ongoing professional development and technical assistance 100s of school involved in the New York State Student Support Services Center's statewide initiative focused on meaningful involvement. Activities included keynote presentations and individual school consultations at a number of workshops across the state, as well as ongoing technical assistance in the form of conference calls and site visits.

Youth Voice in Service Learning

Contracting with the Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, Fletcher provided professional development and technical assistance focused on meaningful student involvement in service learning for 50+ K-12 schools across Washington. Activities included training students and educators in student voice and evaluating service learning programs in local schools.

Student-Driven School Improvement Planning

Fletcher worked in elementary, middle, and high schools across Washington State to facilitate training, programs, and evaluations regarding the role of students in formal school improvement activities. More than 20 professional development, student training, and whole-school forums were provided, with systemic evaluations of student voice and meaningful student involvement featured throughout the project. Support was provided by Yakima Public Schools and the Washington State University Center for Bridging the Digital Divide.
